Articles of Confession
Hot Hot Heat played St. Petersburg at an old single screen theatre turned concert venue.
It was pretty packed by the time we got our $9 plastic-cup beers, and the only open area with enough space for our group was on the balcony level. The balcony was set in tiers, and we had to share the furthest one back with some tables and other miscellaneous furniture stacked against the rear wall for temporary storage. It was not turning out to be a good show. The beer was pricey and the view was poor.
While waiting for a set change, we decided to do some exploring through the stash behind us. One of the guys called me over to take a look at what he found hidden behind a chalkboard. Through the glass display door of a mini-fridge, we found ourselves staring at various bottles of delicious import beer. We thought, surely the fridge would be locked. It was not. We thought, surely the beer won’t be cold. It was.
Suddenly, our $9 plastic beer cups were worth every penny as we refilled several times over with guiness, corona, and heineken. That, coupled with a great performance from the band, made for the best show I have ever been to.
